Aon Maadi Cup Update - 5 March

Today’s announcement from the New Zealand Government has been viewed positively by organisers, and we continue to work towards the successful hosting of the 2021 Aon Maadi Cup with New Zealand in Alert Level 1 conditions.

Rowing NZ and Karapiro Rowing remain committed to delivering the 2021 Aon Maadi Cup, and are optimistic that the event will proceed as planned.

The following information is provided to assist secondary schools with planning and decision making surrounding this regatta in the event that any region in New Zealand may be in Alert Level 2 in the immediate lead-up or throughout the Aon Maadi Cup.

Rowing NZ acknowledges the impact of COVID-19 upon multiple secondary school regattas is significant for all affected. The hosting of major events for secondary school athletes attending from across New Zealand is complex, and extends far beyond safe on-water activity - particularly throughout a period of time where community transmission of COVID-19 remains a risk.

Auckland under Alert Level 2 conditions also impacts the ability of staff, volunteers and officials from attending. Therefore a final assessment on the status of the regatta will be made in line with the next government announcement expected on 12 March 2021 via the following platforms:
