2021 Aon Maadi Cup Update - 12 March

Earlier today the New Zealand Government advised that Auckland would return to Alert Level 1, resulting in all of New Zealand being in Alert Level 1 by 12pm, 12 March 2021.

Rowing NZ and Karapiro Rowing are excited to confirm the 2021 Aon Maadi Cup remains on schedule to be hosted from 22-27 March.

We are looking forward to the successful delivery of the regatta under Alert Level 1 conditions at Lake Karapiro. Rowing NZ and Karapiro Rowing are hopeful Alert Level 1’s conditions will remain in place for the duration of the regatta, but wish to remind schools to be prepared for changes at short notice.

Under Government guidance, New Zealanders should abide by the Alert Level requirements of where they currently are, but Rowing NZ acknowledge schools may have their own policies should a change in Alert Levels occur.

In what will be the event’s biggest in history, over 2,623 competitors from 122 schools are expected to compete with over 8,000 spectators. Whilst these numbers are very positive for secondary school rowing, they will place pressure upon progression of the programme across six day’s racing.
